In a video presentation at the G20 Summit in New Delhi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a longtime supporter of Pakistan, acknowledged Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir as being a part of India, sparking outrage. Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the deputy prime minister of the UAE, posted this video on social media, thus endorsing India’s territorial claims.
Inadvertently highlighting a shift in the UAE’s diplomatic position on the Kashmir problem, the movie was originally intended to highlight economic corridor projects connecting India with the Middle East and Europe.
This change signals a growing gulf between Pakistan and Middle Eastern nations like the UAE and Saudi Arabia and a warming of relations between India and the UAE.
